About Me

That’s my message to those concerned about our kids carrying on the faith. We read about teens and young adults walking away, and we don’t know what to do. We see that young Christians know little about their Bibles and even less about doctrine. Argh.

One kid at a time

For me, it starts with biblical literacy. If you don’t know God’s Word, how on earth can you live it out? Or teach it? Or encourage a friend with it? Sure, most church kids know the Greatest Hits, and have brought home countless coloring pages emblazoned with Bible verses. There’s nothing wrong with a coloring page or a word search to reinforce a story with small children, but listen, people, at some point, it’s time to serve up some meat in their spiritual diets, right?

In 2005, I started Inductive Bible Study through Precept Ministries, and I’ve been a total junkie ever since. When my daughter was about seven, I discovered Precept’s kids’ studies. What?!!? She and I started doing the studies at home, and it was such a sweet time of teaching and discipleship. Over time, God gave me a bigger vision, and I started teaching Precept’s kids’ studies at my church in 2011. Since then, I’ve taught at least two studies per year.

My passion is to teach kids how to read and study God’s Word for themselves. That means equipping YOU, their adults, giving you principles of study, and encouraging you because it matters.

I spend a fair amount of time reassuring parents that kids can actually do this. I mean, we’re doing straight-up Bible study with kids, and never with a storybook or “kid” Bible. Kids study the Bible by—brace yourself—studying the Bible. I know! Revolutionary! Yes, yes, yes, kids are absolutely capable of learning to study their Bible, eventually doing it all on their own.

Kids starving for this

If you’ve never even heard of Inductive Bible Study, you’ve come to the right place.

If you’re a Precept lifer interested in passing that along to one child, you’ve come to the right place.

If you’re in children’s ministry on a quest for something different, you’ve come to the right place.

And hey, if you feel completely inadequate to help any kid learn how to understand his Bible, you really are in the right place!

From there, poke around and see what you find. There’s lots of content in the works, so I highly recommend signing up to receive emails from me (over there to your right). And if you have a burning question or topic, it would make my day to hear from you.

This blog is for you. I am stewarding the ministry God has trusted me with, and that means reaching out to wherever I can be of help. Ready? Let’s go!
